We've advocated and used silicone hoses in engine bays for years, there are some hard, strange shaped hoses in the primary Montero cooling system, the main radiator hoses aren't ideal for straight silicone hose, there are three other size hoses in the engine bay, two are only 1/4" diameter and hidden in the valley of the engine. Doing a cooling system restoration without changing the rubber hoses is asking for heartache. The factory and oem replacement rubber hoses degrade through a phenomenon known as electro-chemical degradation, or ECD. It occurs due to the hose, liquid coolant and the engine/radiator fittings forming a galvanic cell or “battery”. This chemical reaction causes micro-cracks in the hose walls, allowing the coolant to attack and weaken the hose reinforcement through thermal expansion and contraction.

Rather than change the coolant hoses out every 2-3 of years in the arid desert climate (3-5 elsewhere), we swap out to reinforced 100% silicone hoses, they last years beyond factory rubber hoses. CA-Tuned partnered with us to make these hoses, they provide performance upgrades to the Drifting motorsports aftermarket realm; where machines meet high demand and require maximum cooling. Both off-roading and drift racing require healthy cooling systems and the more extreme you go, the more intense the demand on the cooling system is. We've worked with them to get OEM fitment with high performance quality.
